Summer Heat

Well, Summer's heat is on here in Florida, however the real heat that is bothering me is my passion for jewelry creating. My brain is wired on jewelry creations, I day dream about jewels always!

A recent trip, in fact to escape the Florida heat to New York City has inspired some newly created baubles now on display in my Etsy shop. One pair has already sold, Yay! Miracles do happen! Must make more.....please visit my shop at this site http://www.msssixtiesjewels.etsy.com/, yes it is spelled with 3 "s".

I am getting up to speed making bracelets now and soon, like in the next week or so, I will begin my hand at pendants. I have not quite found my niche yet, I have created everything from fun play jewels under 15.00 to higher end pieces using gorgeous gemstones and everything in between. I will begin working on some additional higher end pieces in the late summer, I think my skill level is improving!

So for now, I am beating the summer heat by staying inside, sitting comfortably at my work desk and making all sorts of baubles. Wish I had the NYC park view out my window always! Stunning!

Erk N' Jrk Creations: Treasures from SSODS

Erk N' Jrk Creations: Treasures from SSODS

Did I Mention Flowers?

Yes, again this year I made some really cute flower arrangements for a senior center fundraiser fashion show and luncheon...these were donated as a gift to the women attending the luncheon. These arrangements contained Gerber daisies, hot pink and bright yellow roses and soft pink peonies with ribbons and some with added jewels...I am a huge collector of all kinds of ribbon, you might say I hoard it..I love using it freely in flower arrangements, gift wrap and at the holidays watch out..in garland and on the tree!

I am posting a few pics....beside working on my jewels, I love to create flower arrangements for special events...if I could I'd have fresh flowers in my home daily! It happens pretty often though that I will stop by my favorite flower shop for a dozen or two roses. I prefer flowers in pure form by themselves with little greenery as trim....never do I use baby's breath or ferns....sometimes all it takes is a quick trip to the yard to find just the right touch of greenery to accompany that special arrangement...one year I spray painted leaves silver and gold for the holidays for that special touch on the table using yard greenery....an advantage to living in the deep south...it is green all year long!

Enjoy!

Silver n Sixties..YES!

It is about time that I wrote something on this dang blogger...I've been so busy I can't see straight..busy with my jewely sales. My new store Silver n Sixties store is finally coming together. I created my first piece of jewelry to go into this Etsy store.

My goal is to create glitzy and glamourous jewelry pieces that people can afford to purchase in this poor economy. When the economic situation gets better I will create higher end pieces but for now I believe people should be able to make a small splurge on something very glammy for themselves. This is what my Etsy store is all about.... my new Etsy store Silver n Sixties will be tailored for the diva that just loves to wear black and diamonds!

Love,

Never, Ever Enough Time in One Day....

Time passes so quickly, I can hardly believe it is going to be St. Paddy's Day tomorrow. I have yet to really get this blogging thing down to a science. Much less do any of things I have set out to do with it...
I have added many new pieces of jewelry at awesome prices to my etsy.com site.
Here is my newest creation and one of fave stones, lemon quartz...these stones are quite large, clear and just succulent breath-taking gems....tell your friends to take a look at my shop. http://www.msssixtiesjewel.etsy.com/.
Lemon Quartz Quick Facts
Lemon quartz is known in folklore to enhance mood, ease ill thoughts and depression, it is a "feel good" stone! Just looking at this beauty gives me increased feelings of goodness. The stone gets its' color from a large content of iron and it is process treated with gamma rays for an increased in lemony color or this process sometimes yields a gorgeous orange color. It is also known as citrine. Without the iron content quartz can turn purple in color, known as amethyst...interesting, huh?
TTFN...next the magical mystical magic of Pink Tourmaline, another fave jewel.

Bejeweled Bracelet....

Well, I did it today. Made my first ever bracelet...and now I am on my way..to more. Check it out on www.msssixtiesjewels.ets.com It did not begin the way I had planned to, but the end result worked out just fine!

I began to make it with stringing wire but did not have all the stones I needed, nor did I feel I had all the right tools. So I will have to hold off on that style until I can get it just right. It is sure to be stunning though. I am very excited about it!

I am continuing to make very slow headway to my silver n sixties store. Getting my new banner and biz cards designed...and will begin to make the jewels soon, too. Being sick last weekend sorta set me back a bit, but now I am moving forward again.

Baubles for Less

I have finally started, against my deep love for precious gemstones, to make cute baubles in glass, crystal and also using base metals in place of sterling and gold. I want to try to appeal to everyone with my jewels and to make them affordable to all.

I admit I love natural gemstones, sterling and gold. I will use this blog to begin some lessons about semi-precious gemstones. For now, with hard economic times, I will use the less expensive supplies and findings to create..although...I do have some gorgeous gemstones still in stock to create very special jewels. My favorite is pink and green tourmaline and whiskey quartz...oh I love lemon quartz too! Just to die for, that color is stunning.

A few things to come..giveaways, educational information on semi-precious gemstones, how I put my proceeds to use for charity and more jewels in a new "silver n sixties" store.

For now, it is Sunday evening, I need a cocktail, and to relax by checking out my Vintage Barbie collection to see what my next collectible item will be...I think a 1967 Mattel Outfit called Pink Sparkle...

Sales, Sales Sales?

Jewelry sales on Etsy.com are rather slow and I've got to come up with ideas to better market my baubles. Any blogger out there with pointers are welcome. I admit I've not paid enough attention to marketing, however, I am gonna do better in days to come.

I am going to begin creating a line of earrings under 10 bucks so everyone can (hopefully) afford to purchase something from my shop if so desired...I also have three opportunities to sell these jewels in the community, so I shall see how that goes! Whoo, hooo! The most difficult task is time management and deciding to dedicate your time to this craft, no matter what else may need attention. Commitment!

eBay always does well for me..it seems no matter how poor the economy seems to be, people still love to shop for clothing and they buy..I wish I could sew!! My goal here is to make a line of glamour jewels that anyone can afford.

I have a new idea for a shop called "Silver n Sixties" glamour baubles in silver, crystal and black, including bracelets..Keep posted for more news on this little endeavor. I have the best graphic designer to help this idea come to life! Thanks for your support Mia! She shall also soon remodel my blog site as I get this one off the ground.
Patience is a virtue. Diligence is necessary. Confidence is immeasurable.

Slacker or Busy?

Some might say I've slacked off on my blogging commitment, and while that may be quite true, I've really been busy. Company visiting post holiday, taking down holiday decorations...10 Christmas trees in our home to take down, loads of gorgeous garland to disassemble, so this coupled with trying to keep my eBay and Etsy shops running...and oh, did I mention two careers to boot. Well, you get the picture I am certain, by this point, that, or you may have tuned out by now. And that's okay too.

I did have the good fortune of seeing the President while he was in town this week. It was quite awesome to experience. I will be blogging my experience soon. Pictures included. I am quite a fan of Obama!
So with this news and some spare time, I will have hammer another story out soon..in the meantime, please go and look at my stores on
msssixtiesjewels.etsy.com and you can find me on ebay as user ID mssixitiesdoll. TTFN.

Copperfield Magic

What would be the likelihood of participating in a magical performance with David Copperfield? All I really wanted to do on the evening of our 44th US President's inauguration was stay home glued to CNN or MSNBC...however my husband and friends had other plans. It was an exhausting day at work, I came home tired and ready to crash, but recalled, that there was something else I needed to be doing....my heart began racing, what was it? Oh , yes, I need to meet some friends for dinner and go see the David Copperfield performance at our local community college performing arts hall.

Feeling a little down, stressed and tired, not-to-mention freezing from the unseasonably COLD weather we were having, I joined my hubby and we drove to meet our friends for an evening out in sleepy little Ft. Myers. On the way, I told my hubby, let's not ever plan to go out on a weekday evening again! Saying this, due to the overall tense feeling I was experiencing knowing our friends had been waiting for us at the restaurant for 45 minutes, not because we were late, but RATHER they were early!! Still, it made this very time-focused gal a raging lunatic. I hate the thought of people having to wait for me! Now, please, do not get me wrong, I love going out, hubby and I love night-life, but rather the night life on vacations in say, New York City, South Beach, or even Monte' Carlo, but a weekday night in Ft. Myers, na-aw! Not tonight!

Finally arriving at the restaurant, we ordered our favorite cocktail, spiced rum with just a splash of Coke, (yes, Coke as in coca-cola, this is the south!) with a "topper" (famed by my momma) of Malibu coconut rum and topped with two cherries...yummo! After the first cocktail, good food and conversation with our friends, we ordered another cocktail. Sipped it, well, okay gulped it. Now, I was finally ready to be entertained by David Copperfield!

Heading across the street into the performing arts hall at the last minute, I no longer suffering from the previously described mental status, we all hurried to our seats, elated and ready to see this show. Hey, it even began on time, furthering my pleasure for the evening. The time-issue thing always gets to me! I do not like waiting for people either, even if it is David Copperfield! You could call me impatient, time-pressured type A personality or whatever the opposite of laid-back personality would be described as. Not so southern...

You see, my husband, Chris, has always wanted to see David Copperfield, I was along to please hubby, not a big fan of this type of art, however curious to see how this event would be performed. After all, I have watched David Copperfield on television so my thinking was how will David Copperfield manage to pull off these amazing illusions in such a small venue.

The show began, David arrives on stage emerging from a previously empty secured large container on a shinning beautiful motorcycle. In addition to David's amazing stage presence and talent, he's funny. He's very entertaining. I had no idea that he would be funny, this was the best part of the show for me. The guy is fun!I was really enjoying myself, thinking this was not how I imagined the show at all.

The performance was going well, I was feeling relaxed, entertained and beginning to warm up from the frigid cold outside. David engaged the audience with a very touching story about his life and family, highlighting his grandfather. Or best that I can recall, because my stress level was about to become elevated once again, escalating beyond the earlier description I have provided. I was selected by Frisbee, yes, by a Frisbee toss (by random?, not certain) and I was going to become a part of the next performance. The Frisbee landed on the gentleman in front of me but David told the man to give me the Frisbee. Yikes! The little venue I mentioned earlier, had suddenly exploded in my mind, to being the biggest building with so many people, I could ever be in...ever...!!

Fortunately, for myself and everyone else involved, things were happening fairly quickly, so I had little chance to think about anything or I may have refused to get up on that stage. I am beyond horribly shy, I was shaking, (and not from the cold temps outside) yet a teeny tiny component of me was a tad wee excited to be part of this event. At first, all I had to do was give David some numbers from my seat in the audience (standing) and also give my birth date..as I began to recover and sink back into my chair, I heard the words, "Now, come on up on the stage."

For a split second I thought, okay, who are you kidding, I do not care who you are, David Copperfield or not, there is no way I am leaving this seat! Even my husband was frightened that I would refuse and that I would cause a huge scene. But I didn't, I sucked it up, put on my adult face and hurried up to the stage, as one would expect me to do. From there, it was sort of blurry. I was wishing I had that third cocktail back at the restaurant, I had really wanted a third, I was thinking, oh why, oh why didn't I have the third cocktail things would be going so much more smoothly if I had, oh why.......Although in reality, I am unsure that third cocktail would have done anything for me really in this very exceptional case. I was beyond a heightened state of arousal, one that even a third cocktail could not calm, pharmaceuticals, perhaps, but not a third cocktail. Ha!

Once on stage, I was instructed to do a few things by the staff or the stage help. I thought, oh, great, why me, I will screw it up. I was supposed to be silent after David asks me to say some numbers...I thought this is NOT going to go very well...but it was fine, David did great and I kept my mouth shut! Yay! There were other people from the audience on stage as well. All of us doing things so quickly, in being part of the performance, it was difficult to take everything in...But I think I did fine, based on my ability to be sitting here writing this right now and my husband's and friend's kudos and commendations.

The end result in the performance was that David made his grandfather's turquoise colored Buick convertible appear on stage. Nervous, I didn't even notice the car on stage, as I was too busy giving David a kiss on the cheek, feeling very, very much like an out-of-the-body experience myself! I really had a magnificent time after all, it is not every day that you can share in an experience like this one..., and I didn't even need the third cocktail. Although, now I needed it to celebrate my performance!
I have met Angelina Jolie in our hotel in NYC, seen Jerry Seinfeld at Cafe' Gray in NYC, seen Jon Bon Jovi and his wife at Donna Karan, played with Vanessa Redgrave's dog in Central Park among other things, although this Copperfield experience is pretty much at the top of the list for me, well, dinner with George Benson in South Beach may rival this experience.....more on that later!

Anywho, if you ever have the chance to see David Copperfield in a live performance, I'd suggest it, even if you do not have the out-of-body experience to be on stage, he is fun, entertaining and amazing and hey, perhaps you will be invited to be a guest on stage. As stomach twisting as the experience may have been, if given the opportunity I'd do it again and quickly!

Sixties, Jewels & Dolls

Finally after weeks of holidays and company, I have begun to sell gemstone earrings on etsy. Found a terrific graphic artist to help create my banners and biz cards. Check her out at http://www.miasgraphicdesigns.etsy.com/ You will not regret doing biz with this chick, she's talented, patient (I'm slow and often indecisive) and communicates very well. Key to success!

Please check out my etsy site at http://www.msssixtiesjewels.etsy.com/

I'm also back on eBay, oh so slowly but have a few items listed from my closet in pristine condition. You will love my clothing if you fit the bill, size 4 and 6, check my out on eBay at http://myworld.ebay.com/mssixitesdoll or go to user name

mssixtiesdoll at eBay if the link provided does not work. Sold over 1500.00 worth of clothing last year in the first quarter to support a large Wellness Day event for women. Part of these proceeds were also used to help raise money for a local senior center with fashion show and luncheon. I designed flower arrangements held in purses for their silent auction. Well, okay, not all the arrangements fit into purses so a few were in beautiful urns and vases.
My clothing sales on eBay go 100% to fund educational programs for women in violent relationships, as do part of the proceeds from my etsy treasury of items. More information can be found on my etsy web site about the charities I support via these sales.
